Greetings from the Editor:

Welcome to my first issue of The Innerwords Messenger! It pleases me to share ideas to spark your personal journey to wholeness.

It is so exciting how the world has changed with the World Wide Web to link like-minded people. Each month in the newsletter, you will have the opportunity to read articles from my unpublished manuscripts, as well as from many other writers, to help you integrate all the experiences you have had and are going through. There are so many teachers stepping forward with their part of the puzzle of healing our consciousness and it is my pleasure to share some of their information with you.

In addition, each month I will offer one of my books at a lesser rate. This month I am offering the hardback copy of Affirm Your Self Day by Day: Seed Thoughts for Loving Yourself for half of the usual, i.e., $9.98, plus S&H.

May you find at least one idea that makes your life a little more enlightened today.

Fortunate Blessings,
Suzanne E. Harrill

Self Awareness

Finding and Reclaiming the Lost Self

By Suzanne E. Harrill

Even when we are seasoned travelers on the journey to heal our inner selves, there is always more to understand. The unconscious can spring surprise lessons from our shadow side at any time. These surprises, the positive as well as the negative-feeling ones, do not have to scare us. It is helpful if we remember simple truths; such as, we are on a journey to wholeness and choose to find the lost parts of ourselves so that we can fully express who we truly are. An exciting point of view is that life is creative and never finished, so there is always more to learn about ourselves as we heal, grow, and integrate all aspects of ourselves. The more integrated we are the better we are able to participate creatively in life. Rather than getting off track and being seduced into the highs or lows of life, we live with curiosity as life unfolds, ready to meet new experiences.

One helpful way to become aware of unknown parts of ourselves is to see them through the projections we place onto others. In a minute we will talk about projection and its usefulness in finding and reconnecting lost parts of ourselves. But first, let us take a look at how we get lost in the first place, getting caught in the illusions of life, and disconnected from our true self.

The Three Stages of Love

This is a quick reminder about the stages through which a relationship travels. Love grows and changes. The excitement that brings couples together in the first place is very different from the love that emerges fifteen or fifty years later. Love relationships go through three predictable stages. All are important and none can be avoided if love is to flourish.

Stage 1: Romantic Love

Stage 2: Power Struggle

Stage 3: Unconditional Acceptance

Self-Care Tips

On the journey to wholeness and learning to love and respect yourself, it important to take good care of yourself. The bottom line includes a daily routine of getting proper rest, eating healthy food, and movement that suits your personality. Add to this taking good care of your body, your teeth, hair, skin. It is nourishing to choose colors that you like for your clothing and home furnishings. Next, you need stimulation to be personally challenged to grow and have interest in life. You also need people with whom to be close emotionally and with whom to share your journey. You need things to do that bring you pleasure and fun. Finally, you need a way to connect to yourself, such as daily meditation and contemplation.

A well nourished self meets life filled up. You have more energy to participate and give, to meet your challenges, and to do the inner work and self-healing required to have high self-esteem, good relationships, and enjoyment of your life.

Standing Up for Yourself
Through Personal Boundaries.

Denise O’Doherty LPC, LMFT, CIRT, RN

It is said that we teach people how to treat us. If this is true, what then determines how we send signals and messages about us that we want others to receive? We do this through Personal Boundaries both verbal and non-verbal.

What are Boundaries? Boundaries define limits. They define where each of us begins and ends and let others know what is OK with us and what isn’t. Healthy boundaries can be flexible, expandable, and sometimes impenetrable due to the situation.

Questions & Answers

Question: I suffer from chronic pain and then anxiety, sometimes severe, over the pain. I have been in therapy and get massages, which helped for a while. Friends suggest self-help books, but I am not good at reading. I do not know if my current therapy is right for me. What do you suggest, as I am very tired of the situation and feel I need something more to help me?

Research is finally validating what many of us knew all along – that there is more to great leaders than brains. What research is now validating is that great leaders need to use their hearts and souls, as well as their minds! But let’s begin at the beginning…
