The Peace of Joy

by Georgia Woodworth RScP

"I am happy and complete, today and forever.  Within me is that which is Perfect and Complete. It is the Spirit of all Life, Truth and Action. I am happy in the certain knowledge of this Inner Light. I cannot be sad nor sorry, but must radiate Joy and Life, for Life is within me now."

~Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind p 511

Riann Wilson, best known for playing Dwight Schrute on, The Office, wrote a book on answering Life's big questions called Soul Pancake.  However, Soul Pancake is actually a movement started by Riann and a few friends.
One of their activities involved a huge mockup of a polaroid camera.  As people passed by, they were invited to express their joy.  If they accepted, they were photographed and the images were shared. It quickly became clear that being happy and smiling is contagious.

There is also the yoga practice of laughing as the path to enlightenment.  How could anyone laughing with such relish and abandonment possibly avoid peace and joy?

I've noticed my happiness is a sign of how at peace I am.  This is especially apparent when I am in the company of young children or animals.  Neither kids or critters can be misled.  When I am happy, they know.

As I am joyful, I feel the peace that is already present.  And so it is with others.  If my friends or family members are happy and joy-filled, my spirit is uplifted.

The outward expression of true joy comes from an inward reality that I am steadily cultivating.  I have to be willing to experience joy without a known reason.  I can choose to be happy regardless of what life is handing me at any given moment.  Simply because is more than good enough.

Of course, I am occasionally sad or upset or outright angry.  The trick is to let the feelings go.   That is a learned skill that takes lots of effort.  It's something I am still working toward.  I can't allow myself to be led down the garden path by the word, 'trick'.  It takes patience, time and lots of practice to release attachment to the stories I've reiterated for so long.
As Spirit is given the reins through prayer and stillness, troubles are gradually becoming less challenging.  I sometimes marvel at the joy that wells up from the center of my being.  The correlation between being joyful and being at peace is close, so close.

I invite you to join me, Soul Pancake, the Laughing Yogis, your best bud who laughs with such gusto, children acting silly and anyone else who is joyous in the moment.  Let's all leap into our God-given bliss and be happier then a retriever with a mouth full of tennis balls.  Let's create a state of peace that grows exponentially...the peace of joy.
Affirmation:  I choose joy and know peace is already right where I am.
